The influence of the Portuguese and Northeastern Brazilian cultures has been remarkable in the characteristically indigenous Amazonian Folklore. This folklore is expressed through nature and mysticisms. Popular folkloric celebrations take place in the capital as well as other cities in the interior of the state.

In June, tourist activities concentrate on the folkloric festivals in Manaus and Parintins. For more than thirty years in the capital of the state there has taken place the great party of the bumbás - Corre-Campo, Brilhante, Gitano, Tira-Teima, and Tira-Prosa. There are also square dances, cirandas (a popular dance), and northeastern dances presented at perfomances in the Cultural Center of Amazonas - a place with the capacity to seat thousands of people. During the entire month of June, the festivities involve everyone; from the schools, to districts, to locations in the state's interior.

In the Parintins during the last three days of the month of June, thirty-five thousand people cheer for the two great bumbás, "Garantido" and "Caprichoso". This is the most competitive folkloric festival because of the richness of the performances that tell in detail about the legends and the indigenous mythology of the Lower Amazonas Region. The bumbá, Garantido, uses the colors red and white; whereas, Caprichoso, is recognized by the colors blue and white. During the period of the performances, the city streets in Parintins are divides by colored banners.

Parintins is an exciting and ever-growing festival that has gained national and international attention the past few years. The festival and city's history is rich and varied.
